Bleeding Love

I'm sitting here thinking about my life. God has been looking out for me ever since I was a little tyke. And when tragedy would strike, He'd fix it and make it all better. When I was six, my biological father abandoned our family. It broke my heart because I loved him so much. He was funny, he was smart, he would sing loud and cook us yummies. He was full of hugs and sweet words. He was all the things a girl loves about her daddy. Except he didn't love himself, which made it extra hard for him to love us. He chose to pursue other things in life that meant more to him. So God gave me a different daddy. Not one that was better prepared or had more experience, but one who followed Him and chose to think of me as his own little girl. And in the midst of angry words and a sea of tears, my new daddy became my hero and the towering example of how I'd like to live my life - ambitious, strong and sensitive to the Spirit.

Since then, I've met many girls who have had the same experience as me. Only too many of them are still waiting for a new daddy. This is what I've found: Some of them see their fathers, but they don't know them. Some dads are passive and their daughters wonder if they are important or loved. Some dads are loud and shout out the answers, but they never listen to their little girls; their daughters are left wondering if their father even sees them or cares about them. Some dads tell their girls to live one way, but he lives a different way - leaving his daughter confused and struggling to respect him. Some girls wonder if they are pretty enough or pretty at all because their fathers put too much importance on physical beauty or fail to mention it at all.

I know that no one is perfect, and that's not what any girl asks of her daddy. She only asks that he make a point to show her in every way possible that he thinks the world of her. That there is no other girl like her anywhere and nobody could possibly deserve her because she is, after all, a princess. It's amazing how much influence a father has on the way his daughter sees herself.

So I pray for the daddies in this world. That they look to our perfect Heavenly Father on how to do the job. And I pray for the daughters of this world, that they look to our perfect Heavenly Father for their worth.
